The exhibition “Myrtis: face to face with the past”, which will be hosted at the “Giali Tzami”, in Chania, from 8 to 30 September 2021, unites yesterday with today, highlighting the communication between science and art.
The exhibition – which is a collaboration with the Municipality of Chania, the Port Fund, the Public Benefit Enterprise of Culture and Environment of the Municipality of Chania and the Hellenic Mediterranean University – highlights an important interdisciplinary achievement: The reconstructed face of 11-year-old Athena, M , who was, like Pericles, one of the tens of thousands of victims of the typhoid fever of 430 BC, in the great Plague of Athens. Visitors will learn about the fascinating history of Myrtida, the challenges it overcame, the technologies applied, how it inspired scientists and artists, but also the path it took to become internationally recognized as a “friend of the UN Millennium Development Goals”. stamp from ELTA and currency, silver five euros from the National Mint and the Bank of Greece…
